Les Nuits love both Tony Gatlif and rebetiko. Two past original creations come to confirm this, Vertiges (2007) and Django Drom (2010), shown with the first and a yearly program dedicated to the second Les Nuits Grecques (Greek Nights). So it would not be understated to say that we are enchanted to merge the two this time, for a unique event. The rebetiko is this blues rooted in the displaced greek communities of Turkey, it has inspired Gatlif in the writing and direction of his latest film, Djam. Set with an impeccable soundtrack and embodied by the breath of the singer and actress Daphné Patakia, Djam is a tale of exile. “The rebetiko, is a music of black sheeps, a music respectful of misery” repeated Gatlif who continues to impose himself as the representative filmmaker of nomadic people.
