Nine years after Tony Gatlif and Dider Lockwood’s memorable Django Drom, Fourvière welcomes again one of its prestigious protagonists, Biréli Lagrène.

The Biréli is a “go-getter” - an attribute he embraces himself. But such a word, in the mouth of a guitarist that learned the ropes at the manouche school, is to be used cautiously, it does not indeed only stand for a frantic virtuosity. If Biréli go-gets, it is most of all from one sphere to another, on a path full of detours that can only be led by jolly pleasure and freedom. “Django helped me to go wander and see what is going on in other territories” he likes to recall... This time it is in a trio formula with Chris Minh Doky and Mino Cinely (Weather Report, Miles Davis...) that he goes on to explore, revisting jazz or brazilian standards, constantly playing on musical telepathy and sensuous phrasing. Swing, groove, accuracy : this Storyteller is a promise to take the art of musical narrative to its highest peak.

The tender rebel Sarah Lenka will preface the night, notably revisiting Bessie Smith’s dark and blue repertoire.
